Dickson duplex, from jungle to inner city lifestyle

Pat and Jake bought a renovator's delight duplex with a jungle of a yard. Lots of hard of hard work with help from family brought the garden from chaos to urban sanctuary. The last short video shows what a tangled mess this garden was when they bought the house.

Limited budgets meant they did the bulk of the work themselves with lots of help from family, making the most of what they had with careful design and plant selection. The end result is a great result with a manageable lawn, drought hardy, low maintenance plantings, veggie gardens and very lux chicken villa.

Painting the variety of fences and sheds the same colour gave the yard a cohesive backdrop and makes the colourful Coral bark maples pop. Red brick edging ties the garden to the Dickson duplex style without the big cost and job of paving a large area. Simple, dog friendly, inexpensive and effective.

Trees will provide year round interest with Maples with winter colour, Cercis for spring purple flowers and Crepe Myrtles for summer blooms. All will give a blaze of Autumn leaf colour. Heuchra Lime Marmalade will grow to create a lush lime ruffle around the circular lawn.
